I've always wondered if buddha is a symbol of self-control why is he fat? Just a ponderance. I know there are other buddha icons. Slimmer. But this is the one most often visualized. Fatness seems to bring to mind self-indulgence and sloth. Sunami

What about all of the art and sculpture from the past several centuries? All the women are a little plump and the men have little penises. Perhaps you are being too hard on yourself?
The Laughing Buddha is the fat one. He's fat because he is prosperous and emanates prosperity from his lucky fat belly. This Buddha hails from the Chinese tradition and was adopted by the Southeast Asians in the Theravada branch of Buddhism. The Tibetan Buddhas are all in pretty good shape...maybe cuz they don't eat pork fried rice and eggrolls. I hang with the Tibetan Buddhas personally...
Sober Genuine and Spunky Low Maintenance Gardener, Writer And Musician interested in hanging with laid back, funny sober friends, helping people regain their health through holistic medicine and broadening their perspective on interpersonal relationships, spirituality and positivity in order to create their own heaven on earth. Music and Nature seem to be my driving forces and lately just being still in the quietude. Not a member of the rat race and trying to seek balance and peak health amidst the chaos of society. Quieting my mind is my latest challenge....it's like the eveready bunny...it keeps going, and going and going!
